Usage for torque


IN THIS, my last column this year, my two final Torque Awards for 2011 go to Brian Molefe and Peter Bruce. Molefe was appointed to succeed Maria Ramos as Transnet CE; in a long interregnum, the post was occupied on an acting basis by Chris Wells.

The engine itself puts out a stout 215 horsepower and a stump-pulling 324 lb-ft of torque. When combined with a hybrid drive assist system using a 11.2 kilowatt lithium-ion battery and high-torque electric motor, the power figures jump up even more.

By Andy Stonehouse Word has it that the new turbocharged EcoBoost engine, now offered as a high-torque, high horsepower but fuel-efficient alternative for the venerable Ford F-150 pickup, has really caught on.

The good: The 2012 Honda Civic Si's new engine features better low-end torque, more even power delivery, and slightly improved fuel economy.

More impressively, 90% of the turbo 4-cylinder's 260lb-ft of torque is available from 1500, revving all the way to 5800rpm before running out of engine.
